Origins
A village in the political municipality of Saanen, Gstaad has existed since the Middle Ages at the intersection of mule tracks leading to the Valais and the Pays de Vaud.
The village prospered on livestock farming and the alpine economy until a huge fire in 1898. Then, it developed thanks to the MOB railway line in 1905 and the beginning of ski tourism.
In a short time, the region counted more than 1000 beds to host visitors.
The careful development and establishment of the area and its infrastructure was responsible for reputation.
Wood is the main accessory of architecture. Even the convention center, the swimming pool, or the tennis hall follow the style of the traditional or modern chalet.
The M.O.B
Spectacular due to its construction, the Montreux-Oberland Bernois (MOB) is the railway line which changed the destiny of Gstaad
In the euphoria of the tourism that marked the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the project linked the Riviera of Lake Geneva to the Pays d'Enhaut and the Oberland Bernois.
Immediately electrified (an event at the time), it was inaugurated in 1905 over 63 kilometers, with 18 tunnels and 62 bridges.
The Gstaad railway station very quickly opened its doors to the entire world, curious about the beauty of the landscape, in winter as well as in summer.

The Promenade
A five minute walk from the Grand Hotel Park, in the center of the village of Gstaad, the Promenade is a group of shops that fits its name perfectly.
People come here for a stroll and to enjoy the elegant fashion boutiques, jewelers, art galleries, and busy restaurants, not to forget the shops offering regional products.
The Promenade, transformed into a pedestrian area in 1996, gives everyone a moment of peace and pleasure.
